How Tech Giants Like Google and Apple Want to Improve the Internet

This week, Google, Apple, Facebook and other major tech companies announced that they had joined forces to launch Web Platform, a repository of knowledge and best practices for web technologies. As with Wikipedia, anyone can contribute, and hundreds of people already have. Along with volunteers from some of the “steward” companies — which also include Adobe, HP, Microsoft, Mozilla, Nokia and Opera — Web Platform is run by members of the World Wide Web Consortium (W3C), an international group focused on creating web standards. Intel to use London as a smart city lab

Chip maker Intel has set up a laboratory in London to test the technologies that could power the cities of the future.   The Collaborative Research Institute for Sustainable Connected Cities was unveiled at 10 Downing Street. Intel is partnering with Imperial College and University College London. The aim of the institute will be to find real-life applications for technology to enhance city life.
